Sketchbot Custom Teaser

Wednesday, March 10th, 2010

I pretty much finished my Sketchbot custom last night, apart from some varnishing which will happen later in the week once the paint has fully dried. I showed some pictures of it to Steve Talkowski, who is Sketchbot’s creator and invited me to participate in the show, and he encouraged me to post a teaser image ahead of the show so here it is.

What you’re seeing a little over 2cm tall :) And that’s all you’re getting before the show opens on 26th March at myplasticheart in New York.

Sketchbot Custom Show in NYC with a Custom by Me

Monday, March 1st, 2010

Steve Talkowski has finally lifted the lid off the Sketchbot custom show that will be taking place at myplasticheart in New York, opening on March 26th. Which means that I can also lift the lid on my involvement as there will be a custom Sketchbot by myself on show. I’ve included the promo card images below, click on them for bigger versions.

It’s going to be a big show of customs, with 50 different artists involved. Click the image below to see just who’s doing a custom Sketchbot.

Better still I’ll be in New York for the launch night which gives me an opportunity to meet Steve in person for the first time and see the customs in all their glory! I just hope my custom makes it across the pond in one piece once it’s finished…

Work Displayed in New Mills Original

Thursday, February 25th, 2010

I recently became a member of a community run gallery called New Mills Original in New Mills, Derbyshire. It’s an interesting project and I believe there are now around 40 artists who are part of it. Today is their first day open after the latest gallery re-hang and I now have a selection of paintings, a drawing and a customised resin toy on display (and available for purchase). This gives me a permanent display area locally, which can only be a good thing, and it will be interesting to see how the project develops.

If you’re in the area I’d strongly recommend you visit New Mills Original as you’ll find a very eclectic mix of painters, illustrators, photographers and crafters on display.

Cafe Exhibition Opens Today

Friday, November 27th, 2009

A few months ago I was asked by some friends if I would like to exhibit my paintings in the new cafe they were opening in the village we live in. Yesterday I delivered the paintings and helped to arrange and hang them and the cafe opens today. I took some quick photos yesterday of the paintings (click on the thumbnails for larger views). I’m hoping to get some better photos in the next couple of days.

I have five paintings on display, all acrylic on canvas. You can see better images of the paintings below (again, click the thumbnails for larger views):

The cafe is called Rosie’s Tea and Coffee Rooms and is located on Kinder Road in Hayfield, Derbyshire (Google Maps link). The paintings will be on display for around a month and are all for sale. It’s quite exciting as it’s actually the first time I’ve ever displayed my work in public “in the flesh”. So, if you’re in the area and want to see these pieces do pop into Rosie’s for coffee and cake!

December Desktop Calendar

Wednesday, November 25th, 2009

Back in February of this year I produced a Corel Painter illustration called “A Snow Day, You Say?”. I decided it would make a good desktop calendar for December so I’ve re-created it in Illustrator and produced versions for lots of different monitor sizes, and one for the iPhone/iPod Touch.

If you click the above thumbnail you’ll get a zip file containing the following versions (download is about 12mb):

800 x 600, 1024 x 768, 1280 x 800, 1280 x 1024, 1440 x 900, 1680 x 1050, 1920 x 1080, 1920 x 1200, 2560 x 1440, 2560 x 1600 plus the iPhone wallpaper

Art From the Past Week

Monday, November 23rd, 2009

Sorry there was no post last week but I was busy finishing the final canvas piece for a small exhibition in a local cafe and it took longer than expected. That’s now finished (see the first thumbnail below) and over the last weekend I also got the time to do my custom paint job on a Tessetoys Oakor resin toy, which came out really well. As usual, click on the thumbnails below to see larger versions.

I should be installing my paintings in the cafe later this week. I’ll make sure I take lots of photos to share on my blog once they’re up.

Art From the Past Week

Monday, November 9th, 2009

Last week was a fairly quiet week on the art front but I finished a new painting ‘Giraffe Print Hideaway’ early in the week. Click the image below for a full view of the painting.

Since then I’ve been working on another canvas which I should hopefully finish this week, time allowing.

Art From the Past Week

Monday, November 2nd, 2009

I don’t really have anything finished to show this week. Not because I’ve been slack though, but because I’ve been working on a painting (20″ x 20″) all week in the bits of time I’ve had available. It’s nearly finished and then I have to start on a second one of the same size.

So this week I’m posting a couple of quick doodles/mock ups I did in Corel Painter for those paintings. The first one below is the mock up for the painting I’m currently finishing, although it’s changed quite a lot in terms of composition. The second one is the painting I’ll be starting later this week and you’ll notice that all I’ve done is mock up a very small section and work on some colour combinations.

Finally, the Moo Minicards arrived last week so I’ve included a photo above of those in all their glory. As always, click on the thumbnails to see the bigger pictures.

Art From the Past Week

Monday, October 26th, 2009

Over the last week I’ve concentrated on putting together a couple of sets of fronts for some Moo Minicards to go along with my painting for a small exhibition starting in a week or so’s time.

They’re all based on previous work and ideas and I re-painted them in Corel Painter. It was fun exercise and I’m looking forward to see how they turn out when they arrive (Royal Mail strikes will no doubt delay these so they don’t get here in time!)

I’ve also sketched designs for two 20″ x 20″ canvases in Corel Painter and followed that up by putting the sketches onto the canvases and sealing them ready for painting this week. I’m going to try and work on both at the same time, as I don’t have a massive amount of time left before they need to be ready. Fingers crossed on that :)

Art From the Past Week

Monday, October 12th, 2009

I’m going to try and do a post every week showing the art and doodles I worked on the week before. This should help make sure I do something every week, hopefully! So, without further ado, here’s what I worked on last week (click the thumbnails to see larger versions):

The first one above, ‘Trick or Treat’, was kindly featured on Fresh Characters which was a nice surprise. Plans for this week include finishing a canvas I started last week and doing some more character posing and doodles.
